Objective of the module: to provide students with knowledge on practices used for adoption, implementation, and control of maritime safety, security and pollution from ships' prevention requirements, safety investigations of marine accidents.
Executive summary of the module: Provision of knowledge on the international, regional and national systems, designated to ensure maritime safety; familiarization with roles of flag state, port state and coastal state. Provision of information on existing four level control mechanism – ship owner – classification society – flag state administration – port state control. Insight on procedures of marine accident safety investigation, flag and port state control, internationally recognized mechanisms of assessment of quality of fleet, regional memoranda of understanding on port state control.
